OUR FRIENDS AT LIBERO MUSIC HAVE KINDLY LET US HAVE A PAGE TO USE FOR THIS 'BLOG'
The contents will consist of thoughts on various subjects which may be of interest to some. The prose is unpolished - no time to spend on editing. Your replies, reflections, contradictions / rebuttals are most welcome at vickietarrant@operamail.com or on Twitter @VickieMedia. We hope to have an 'add comments' facility on this page in due course.
JUST THINK Topic No. 1
QUESTION FOR DARWIN & DAWKINS
Slight Miscalculation? /
"If we used to be monkeys why do monkeys still exist?"
Just to help us clarify our thoughts...So we were fish, then we turned into very hairy creatures, then we shed the hair to become these pathetic vulnerable creatures exposed to the cold and innumerable new predators, from insects - killer ants, scorpions...up to of course the king of the jungle? Today we'd say we were the kings of the jungle or anywhere else - what with our traps, poisons and lethal arms, not to mention playing God over other animals' habitats. Bulldozer and oops! Cut down a tree, and oops! Spray crops, and oops there goes...!
But let's begin at the beginning. Not with the 'word' but with us as monkeys. Let's do a little question and answer session. Not quite multiple choice, I fear.
1. Which has carefree, crease free, for ever in fashion, all year clothing, protection from hot and cold?
A. Man B. Monkey
2. Which has tough toes and heels and can run over any manner of debris without needing an A&E visit?
A. Man B. Monkey
3. Which can run faster, escape most of its predators, clamber up trees to safety, use both feet and hands to great effect, cover great distances by swinging from branch to branch?
A. Man B. Monkey
4. Which has abundant all seasons source of nourishment without having to capture and kill?
A. Man B. Monkey
5. Which has strong teeth / no teething problems?
A. Man B. Monkey
6.Which has a well spaced mating season, free from constant stress?
A. Man B. Monkey
7.Which can live in the great open and not cower in caves or resort to building shelters from...
A. Man B. Monkey
8. Which has free access to share of world's resources and no need to serve others in order to be fed or sheltered?
A. Man B. Monkey
9.Which has more strength, stronger jaws/teeth, can communicate with others across great distances without need for technology?
A. Man B. Monkey
10. Which can do all this simply with what nature provided from its birth?
A. Man B. Monkey
11. Which doesn't need to learn to walk, born without the ability to walk and talk and...
A. Man B. Monkey
If you answered B. to 50% or more of the above you may like to go on to answer the next question:
12. If man used to be a monkey why do monkeys still exist? Ants are still ants, frogs are still frogs...
If you know the answer to the last question please answer the next:
13. Is nature intelligent?
If you answered 'no' to this question there may be no more to be said. But if you said 'yes' please read on:
Given that 'nature' is intelligent, evolution must have a logic. Why would such an efficient model as a monkey shed its protective clothing, ability to escape predators and survive in many other ways better than man, relinquish all that to become this smooth nude, soft fleshed, vulnerable creature forced to provide, with great effort, clothing, shelter...born with many difficulties to overcome - learn to walk, speak, build shelters, weapons...just to survive?
So, here we have a soft creature, quite helpless for several years after birth, unable even as an adult to run faster than its predators and exposed to harm from many creatures great and small. It has no mating 'season', that is to say every season, nay every day and every hour of every day is good for mating. Can you not hear it? : "Go Forth & Multiply"?!
No, my friends, man - far from being the first of God's chosen creatures - was most probably meant to be nature's 'fast food'...?
So, our complicated 'civilised' / industrialised world is simply the result of a slight miscalculation on the part of the 'Creator'?
He did not bargain for our brains growing to overcome all these massive handicaps; had not envisaged that our brains would keep on growing and with it our ability to dominate all other animals before starting to enslave others; too numerous and overrunning the earth, using up its resources beyond prevision and the survival instinct morphing into greed, cruelty, domination...?
One little mistake...the best laid plans, and all that?
Further 'JUST THINK' topics will be added to this page in due course. Really looking forward to Richard Dawkins' explanation of why we may have got it wrong. It would be good to receive the information which would help us towards understanding why the answer to it all may be 42!
